       Chapter 5 Excerpt

 

 There living situation was growing more hazardous by the day as the wife suffers from dementia and the husband was unable to continue to care for her due to his failing health. 

 Although Bill would not ask for help from anyone. When I met with the couple it was apparent that things had been on a downward slope for many years and with no family living in the area to check up on them, the situation had deteriorated to a crisis. 

 The home was in need of repair with no hot water. The once well loved home that the couple had lived in for 40 years was filled with trash and a lifetime of memories of an era gone by




       Chapter 7 Excerpt

 
 We are a people who plan. We plan everything: our schedules, our careers and work projects, our weddings and vacations, and retirements.

 The one area that most of us avoid planning is an illness in our life. We put off, avoid, look the other way and pretend that life as we know it today will go on as we know it forever. Until we are struck down with a disease or crisis of a loved one and have to face the bare cold hard facts. 

 We are not prepared.
